Leak sealing on monolucides and drying cylinders

Monolucidi e cilindri essiccatori sono componenti fondamentali per le macchine che operano nell’industria di produzione della carta.

Tali elementi sono costruiti in ghisa o acciaio, sono costituiti da una parete cilindrica, mantello e da due piastre circolari di chiusura dette testate.

Le testate sono unite al mantello mediante le giunzioni bollonate.

I cilindri monolucidi sono riscaldati tramite una circolazione interna di vapore d’acqua in pressione.

Le perditempo di vapore si localizzano generalmente tra testata e mantello oppure direttamente sui bulloni.

Il metodo di intervento può differire a seconda del caso specifico e prevedere l’installazione di viti, rondelle o dadi d’iniezione.

In tutti i casi l’eliminazione della perdita avviene mediante la successiva iniezione del composto sigillante.

  1. Remove the existing screws
  2. Install extra length screws to allow mounting of injection washers
  3. Realize, if possible, the circumferential containment
  4. Inject the sealing compound

Advantages and Disadvantages

The advantages of this type of intervention are:

  1. speed: reduced times in solving the loss from Yankee and drying cylinders;
  2. it can be repeated as often as necessary and it is not possible to replace the gasket;
  3. costs are reduced in comparison with maintenance on the flanged coupling.

The only disadvantage is the temporary nature of the intervention, the duration of which, ranging from a few months to a few years, depends on the wear conditions of the equipment and the number of start / stop cycles of the system.
